Put To The Test: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair
Our wrinkles are here to stay..
Growing up I had an aunt who never laughed. When she thought something was funny she would snap her fingers. I asked her one day why she did this, and her response was brief but firm: “wrinkles.”
Wrinkles don’t just show up overnight, but it sure can feel like it. Before you know it, people are commenting on your “worry lines.” It’s not fun, but it’s not the end of the world, either.
My own wrinkles began to appear as I approached my mid-twenties, and, much like my aunt, I began to obsess over them.
On top of trying not to laugh or squint, I would soak my face in sunscreen when I knew I wouldn’t be able to avoid going out (and be frantic if I’d forget).
Botox was an option, but I struggled to justify paying a premium amount for what would only be a temporary fix.
I adjusted my focus to a variety of different wrinkle creams and ointments, and, after much trial and error, finally found one that stood out among the rest: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair.
Neutrogena is, of course, one of the most well-known brands for skincare products, and I felt comfortable trusting its claim of being the No. 1 dermatologist recommended solution for wrinkle repair.
The product is reasonably priced and boasts immediate results, while claiming to visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines within one week.
Full disclosure: this part is a little misleading. Skincare, as many of us know, is all about patience. Immediate results are a myth, but that doesn’t mean a product doesn’t work. It just takes time.
So, no, I didn’t immediately notice my wrinkles fade away, but, with that said, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair absolutely works.
The key ingredient in all of Neutrogena’s Rapid Wrinkle Repair products is hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced in your body and works to keep your skin elastic and moist.
You can use the regenerating cream by itself, but to achieve the best results you’ll want to combine it with the other complimentary products, such as Neutrogena’s serum, retinol oil and moisturizer, which comes in both a day and night formula.
The day formula acts as a sunscreen with an SPF of 30, while the night moisturizer uses retinol to smooth, brighten and hydrate your skin as you sleep.
I began my routine by massaging a small amount of the regenerating cream into my face, making sure to work it into any area where there were fine lines. I would follow this up by applying a thin layer of the retinol oil, again making sure to focus on trouble spots.
After waiting 15 minutes I would apply the day moisturizer to make sure my skin was protected from sun damage. I would repeat this process at night after washing my face, replacing the day moisturizer with the night moisturizer before going to sleep.
While I noticed visible results in my fine lines around the two-week mark, it took about five-six weeks before my deeper wrinkles began to show noticeable improvement.
Overall, I am satisfied with how this product worked. After a little bit of a wait, it did what it promised, for the most part. With patience, you too will see likely see positive results. Of course the deep wrinkles are still there.. the day I find a cream that can erase 10 years of aging in 1 week is the day I can confidently discontinue future blog articles. But I have to admit, it did decrease the visibility of my fine lines and smaller existing wrinkles- and by the 5 week mark it made my skin look noticeably smoother and younger.
I would recommend this product to anyone worried about developing wrinkles or who wants to reduce the visibility of their fine lines. Like with any wrinkle cream, it can only do so much, but from everything I’ve tried, it doesn’t get any better.
